Ese eja nation

The Ese eja people have been in charge of caring for and preserving our forests for generations, they are one of the last remaining Amazonian communities. However, at this moment, they are fighting for their survival against the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the beginning of the last century, the population of the Ese eja nation was estimated at more than 10,000. However, today there are only around 1,000 Ese eja native people distributed among three communities in Peru. They have a unique language, a rich culture and a deep knowledge of the forest. However, most of that knowledge resides in the minds of the elderly.

For many years, our Ese Eja communities have protected the tropical rainforest, now it is time to protect them!
What is the Problem?

This pandemic has progressed more rapidly in these communities, due to a lack of basic sanitary and health services.
Very few community members have received education on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and those who become ill have had almost no access to medical services. In some cases, they cannot even get simple pain relief or fever medications.
